Jesse Fell Leadership Society |
United Way of McLean County is proud to honor one of this area’s founding fathers, Jesse W. Fell (1808-1887). Born in Pennsylvania and educated in Ohio, Mr. Fell was involved in business, law, real estate, journalism, horticulture and education. He played a critical role in President Lincoln’s political career as one of the first to encourage Lincoln to run for President. He was also close friends with fellow Bloomington resident David Davis.
Many of Mr. Fell’s greatest contributions to our community remain as symbols of the Bloomington-Normal landscape. He founded Illinois State Normal University and the Bloomington Pantagraph, and owned a law practice that he later turned over to David Davis. Because of Mr. Fell’s belief in and commitment to our community, United Way of McLean County has named its philanthropic leadership society in his honor.
The Jesse Fell Leadership Society is a non-incorporated association with United Way of McLean County. Its purpose is to deepen the understanding, commitment, and financial leadership of individuals in McLean County. Members of the Society play a vital role in building a working and living environment that helps ensure quality education, financial stability, and good health.
